To Be Read (TBR) Challenge

I probably shouldn't, but I will. I'm joining another challenge but I figure that I don't have to add it on top of the 52 books for the A-Z challenge, I can read books that will count for both challenges. I do have to list my chosen books from the beginning so here they are:

1. Reading Lolita in Tehran (Nafisi)
2. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (Smith)
3. A Train to Potevka (Ramsdell)
4. Austenland (Hale)
5. Snowflower and the Secret Fan (Lee)
6. Water for Elephants (Gruen)
7. The Memory Keeper's Daughter (Edwards)
8. Emma (Austen)
9. My Antonia (Cather)
10. The Chosen (Potok)
11. David Copperfield (Dickens)
12. The Screwtape Letters (Lewis)

Alternates:
1. Angela's Ashes (McCourt)
2. The Pursuit of Happyness (Gardner)
3. Wuthering Heights (Bronte)
4. The Robe (Douglas)
5. The Five People You Meet in Heaven (Albom)
6. Dracula (Stoker)
7. My Sister's Keeper (Picoult)
8. To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee)
9. Balzac and the Little Seamstress (Sijie)
10. The Good Earth (Buck)
11. The Book Thief (Zusak)
12. Big Stone Gap (Trigiani)

Has anyone read any of these books that you would say are not worth my time?

I'll tell you right now that My Sister's Keeper has way too many F-bombs for you.

Hey, thanks Julie. I've seen a lot about her books and thought I'd try one. Sounds like I wouldn't like them so I won't waste my time.

It was a really good book though, I'll tell you all about it sometime, minus all the swears.

Sounds great. Have you read others of hers? Are they all full of profanity?

I've only read the one.

Looks like a good list to me! Train to Potevka is not great literature, but I'm curious to know what you think of it.

If The Robe is anything like the movie, you'll love it. David Copperfield is a favorite of mine. I didn't really enjoy My Antonia.

Hi Kim, it's Michelle (Larson). I checked out your blog, saw this list, and thought I'd tell you what I think... I loved Reading Lolita in Tehran and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (some vulgarity in the latter). Snowflower and the Secret Fan was my most favorite book I read last year and I recommend it, however, there is a bit of a sexual theme in some parts (it's not graphic by any means, and deals with the coming of age of Chinese daughters in the 1800s, their marriages, etc.). I didn't like the Memory Keeper's Daughter much, for no particular reason other than it just didn't do much for me. Emma is great, and so is My Antonia (read last year for a book group I'm in, most loved it, some thought it was slightly boring). Happy reading!
